BOARD MEMBERS
James N. Carter, Jr. is Chairman of Tangier Island Health Foundation and a second-generation real estate developer from White Stone, Virginia. He serves on the Board of Directors of Rappahannock General Hospital, a 76-bed, not-for-profit, community-owned hospital in Kilmarnock on Virginia’s Northern Neck. He learned about the unique medical needs of Tangier Island’s residents through Dr. Nichols, his friend and personal physician.
David B. Nichols, MD, FAAFP graduated from McGill University School of Medicine in Montreal, Canada in 1976. He completed his residency at Riverside Hospital in Newport News through the Medical College of Virginia. He is certified by the American Board of Family Practice, is a member of the Virginia Academy of Family Practice, and a fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. Dr. Nichols has been appointed Clinical Associate Professor of Family Practice at MCV. In 1979, Dr. Nichols began his weekly flights to Tangier Island to give its 600+/- inhabitants regular and reliable health care. His commitment to Tangier was honored as he was named the 2006 Country Doctor of the Year, a national award which recognizes the spirit, skill and dedication of America’s rural physicians. Dr. Nichols was also featured as ABC News Person of the Week on January 19, 2007.
B.H.B. Hubbard, III, Esquire, has practiced law for more than 30 years. He is a partner at Hubbard, Terry & Kopcsak in Irvington, Virginia. A native of White Stone, he is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Rappahannock General Hospital. A tireless supporter of his community, he is providing pro-bono legal services to the Tangier Island Health Foundation.
Captain Lonnie Moore is fleet and facilities manager overseeing several island-based educational programs in the Chesapeake Bay for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. He has been a lifelong resident of Tangier Island, Virginia, is a successful Atlantic blue crab fisherman, a competent USCG licensed master, and an accomplished marine environmental educator.
Elizabeth (Inez) Pruitt, PA is a born and raised Tangier Island resident and mother of two. Inez graduated in December 2006 from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a Bachelor of Science degree in the Physician Assistant program. As a P.A., she is licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision, to conduct physical examinations, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, and assist in surgery. Inez is now the only Tangier resident licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision on Tangier Island.
E. Carlton (“Buddy”) Wilton, Jr. founded Wilton Capital Management Services in 2004 and serves as president and chief executive officer. He was president of The Wilton Companies, a real estate development, construction and property management company for 30 years. He has been chairman of Virginia Tech’s Advisory Board of Residential Property Management, president of the Virginia Apartment & Management Association and Richmond Apartment Management Association, a member of the President’s Council of the National Apartment Association, and a committee member of the Home Builders Association of Richmond and the National Association of Home Builders. He has also served on the Virginia Tech Foundation Board of Directors, as a trustee of the Board of Directors for Childsavers, a nonprofit organization in Richmond, and is a member of the Founders Society for Baptist Health South Florida Foundation. For his many philanthropic activities the Association of Fundraising Professionals named him 2005 Philanthropist of the Year.
